DPS JAMMU ORGANIZES ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET 2016

DPS Jammu organized 'Annual Athletic Meet- 2016' on 23rd and 24th December, 2016. Mrs. Priya Sethi, Hon’ble MoS for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Govt. of J&K, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Ms. Prabhjyot Kour, DPS Alumna batch -2011 and Badminton State Champion, rank no. 2, J&K State, was the Guest of Honour.
The event commenced with the DPS song and the rendition of the world famous inspiring song - ‘You raise me up’, sung by the School Choir, accompanied by student rhythimists, infusing the whole atmosphere with grace and serenity .
This was followed by the welcome address by the Principal DPS Jammu , Ms. Ruchi Chabra , who lauded the hon'ble MoS Mrs. Priya Sethi for setting an excellent example of woman empowerment in the state through her wise and strong decisions favouring the progress and growth of Jammu city. She also mentioned about the successful achievements of the school, in general and sports achievements of the students, in particular.
She also congratulated Guest of Honour, Ms.Prabhjyot Kour, ex Sports Captain of the school - 2010 & ex School Head Girl- 2011, for becoming an inspiration for other dipsites, being a Badminton State Champion, rank no. 2, of J&K state, having made a mark nationally and internationally in this game.
Thereafter, the Sports Captains - Raj Pratap Singh & Arpita Labroo in a relay run, handed over the Sports Torch to the hon'ble Mos, Mrs. Priya Sethi who lit the auspicious Sports Lamp, which was immediately followed by the impressive March Past led by NCC Girl cadets , students of the five houses and the School Band followed by the Sports Oath administered by the Principal, Ms Ruchi Chabra, after which, the Chief Guest Mrs. Priya Sethi, MOS, declared the meet open.



Up next was the release of balloons by the Guests and a lively ‘Sporathon Walk' by the players of the different Sports such as Shaolin, Basket ball, Swimming, Table-Tennis, Chess, Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Speedball, Wushu, Taekwondo, Rope Skipping and Skating.
The participants of various cultural events dressed in colourful attire, fascinated everyone with their impressive Curtain hoola-hoop drill, Multi-Sports Dance, demo- display of Wushu, Taekwondo, Yoga, Rope-Skipping, and Self defense. Speaking of the track events, amidst loud cheering of the audience, tiny tots enjoyed running races such as 'Pick & Run' , 'Roll Ball' , 'Book Balancing ', ' Hand Impression run' '60m run' 'Obstacle' and 'Three Legged' race. On the other hand, the sub- juniors ran 100m and fun races such as 'Balloon Bursting' , 'Lock -the- hand -run' & 'Pair - Balloon race' whereas the juniors and the seniors enthusiastically ran the races such as , 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay races. They also actively participated in short put and long jumps.
Addressing the gathering , Mrs. Priya Sethi highlighted the importance of extra curricular activities, games and sports for healthy living and motivated students to keep up their energy, enthusiasm and rich legacy of academic excellence, associated with DPS Jammu . She also congratulated the School Management , Principal, Staff and students for the successful event and also for attaining the rank no. 1 position among all CBSE Schools in J&K and also in Jammu city, as declared in a recent survey of city wide schools, by Education Today. She also gave away Sports Excellence Awards to 80 meritorious students of the school for their year round performance in various sports and games for the session 2016-17. In her address,Ms. Prabhjyot Kour recalled her days spent in the school and said that she takes great pride being called a Dipsite and is happy to see sports and athletics still being pursued fervently in her alma mater and attaining newer heights.
The vote of thanks was presented by Headmistress, Ms. Meenu Gupta.

Further, they also congratulated all participants and winners of the Athletic Meet and conveyed their warm wishes and blessings to everyone on the occasion.
