HON'BLE MS. JUSTICE GITA MITTAL, CHIEF JUSTICE OF J&K HIGH COURT INAUGURATES LEGAL LITERACY CLUB AND LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT DPS JAMMU

Hon'ble Justice Ms. Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court Inaugurated Legal Literacy Club and Legal Awareness Programme at DPS Jammu here today. She was accompanied by Sh. Vinod Chatterji Koul, Principal District & Session Judge, Jammu, Ms. Aditi Chaudhary, Ld. Registrar Vigilance, High Court Delhi, Ms. Tanvi Khurana, Secretary, South East, DLSA, Delhi, Sh. Sanjay Dhar, Registrar General, J&K High Court, Mr. Akram Chowdhary, Member Secretary, J&K State Legal Services Authority, Sh. R. K. Wattal, Registrar Vigilance, J&K High Court, Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Principal Secretary to Hon'ble Chief Justice, Chairpersons and Secretaries, District Legal Services Authorities and Judicial Officers. The esteemed dignitaries were accorded a cabinet grand welcome by the school band, students and NCC girl students alongwith members of the school Management, Principal and staff.
The programme commenced with the welcome of the eminent guests with the traditional lamp lighting and saraswati vandana. This was followed by the address of the chief guest Hon'ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court, who in her inspiring speech laid stress on the need of spreading legal Literacy for all the school students and staff. She also lauded the efforts of the school in creating awareness on the Child Abuse and Environment.
Chief Justice underlined the importance of the role of teachers in grooming of children and emphasized that students should always be respectful and grateful to their teachers and the school. The Chief Justice also highlighted the importance of legal awareness of students about the various provision of laws like Protection of Children from Sexual Violence Offences Ordinance, Information Technology Act and Ranbir Penal Code as ignorance of these provisions sometimes invites penal cognizance regarding some innocent acts of the child. The Chief Justice also underlined about the havoc being created in the environment and nature and impressed upon all to create awareness among the general masses in general and the younger generation in particular about the damage being caused to the environment.
The awareness programme was conducted by J&K State Legal Awareness Authority in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Jammu. The resource persons on the occasion were Ms. Aditi Choudhary, Registrar Vigilance, High Court of Delhi, Ms. Tanvi Khurana, Secretary, South East, DLSA, Delhi. While Ms. Aditi focused on the sensitive topic of child abuse & sexual violence. Ms. Tanvi Khurana presented a PPT on Environment and sensitized the children on the concept of green and clean Earth and the need to protect environment and spread greenery.
The awareness programme was made lively through interaction with the children, enactments and video presentations. The students learnt about good touch and bad touch, detecting signs of abuse and also about the preventive measures that can be taken to handle such problems. At the same time, they also learnt about different ways of making their environment cleaner and greener.
Earlier, the students presented impressive array of programmes such as skits on POCSO Ordinance and Environment. Tarini Mangotra of class IX-A highlighted the ways Technology can be used in schools for child safety and protection. She also gave a video presentation on the BuSafe application using RIFD technology, currently being used by the school. Her self-composed poem expressing the need of protecting children from sexual abuse won huge round of applause.
The school staff including Ms. Neeraj Kaila, Mr. Sukaran Gupta and Ms. Pooja Pandoh highlighted the important measures schools can take in terms of children's safety. The programme was compered by Ms. Kamini Sawhney and Ms. Payal Sharma. Also present on the occasion were Hon'ble President, RCT, Sh. M.K Ajatshatru Singh, Hon'ble Director, DPS Jammu, Sh. S.S Sodhi, Principals & Staff of DPS Jammu and DPS Nagbani. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Sh. S.S. Sodhi who thanked the Hon'ble Ms. Justice Gita Mittal Ji for inaugurating Legal Literacy Club and Legal Awareness Programme. He also thanked Sh. Vinod Chatterji Koul, Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu, Ms. Aditi Choudhary, Registrar Vigilance, High Court of Delhi, Ms. Tanvi Khurana, Secretary South East, DLSA, Delhi and other Secretaries, District Legal Services Authorities and Judicial Officers for their valuable services rendered on the occasion. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
