DPS JAMMU HOLDS WORKSHOP ON CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

A workshop on “Sensitization, Legal Awareness & Child Sexual Abuse was held in the premises of Delhi Public School, Jammu here today. The Resource Persons on the occasion were Ms. Keshav Sharma, Psycho-Oncologist, Fortis Healthcare & Mr. Pradeep Sharma, Project Director, Project CACA. The workshop started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Resource Persons, Principal, Headmistress, Dy. Headmaster & Coordinators. The Principal-DPS Jammu, Ms. Ruchi Chabra presented the welcome address and stressed on the necessity of making the teachers aware of Child Sexual Abuse and also to sensitize the children about it. She also mentioned that the school has started Legal Literacy Club in the school with the same purpose in mind.
DPS Jammu has implemented Project CACA (Children Against Child Abuse) for the safety of its children from the academic year 2019 onwards. The project is Child-Centric, Preventive and Holistic Project Against Child Abuse in General and Child Sexual Abuse in particular, Child Rights and Gender Equality. By implementing Project CACA, the school has empowered over 5000 students, their parents, 300 teachers and more than 200 support staff of the school. The workshop was attended by teaching, non-teaching and support staff of the school.
The workshop sessions were very informative and interactive. The teachers shared their personal anecdotes of classroom experiences dealing with students and parents in the school. Ms. Keshav Sharma sensitized the staff on the various psychological aspects of Child Sexual Abuse. She laid importance on effective communication strategies between teachers and children and also between children and their parents. Mr. Pradeep Sharma dwelt in detail on POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offence) and interacted with the teachers and the support staff quite well.
Headmistress, Ms. Meenu Gupta also addressed the gathering. She said that the teachers not only make the children learn but children also make the teachers learn. The vote of thanks was presented by Dy. Headmaster, Mr. Ravi Kotroo. Principal, DPS Jammu, Ms. Ruchi Chabra felicitated the Resource Persons with the token of appreciation. The programme was compered by Ms. Aditi Sharma, Ms. Payal Sharma, Ms. Pooja Pandoh and Ms. Rohina Gupta.
The workshop came to an end with instrumental National Anthem.
