DPS Jammu organized SAPTAK-2014, an Inter-House Classical Solo Singing Competition

To promote love for Hindustani Classical Music among the young generations, DPS Jammu organized SAPTAK-2014, an Inter-House Classical Solo Singing Competition for classes IX-XII in the school premises here today. Sh. Ravi Sharma, a renowned Santoor Player, Singer, Composer and approved Radio artist of J&K was the Chief Guest and Judge on the occasion. The program began on the auspicious note with lamp lighting by the Chief Guest, Addl Director Principal , Headmistress along with the House In charge (Ganga House) of the school.

There were two participants from each of the five houses trained by the Music faculty of the school, who presented Raag based Classical ‘Bandish’ accompanied by Harmonioum, Tabla & Tanpura. They were judged on the basis of the rhythm, presentation & overall quality of their renditions.

All participants took part with great zeal and enthusiasm and left the audience mesmerized with their stunning performance, while Ms. Seema Singh, the compere familiarized the audience with the intricacies of ragas, their class and the time of their singing.

Tawi house was adjudged as the Winner while the Chenab house, the Runner’s up. In the individual category, Riya Rastogi (Class XI A) Subah Prabhakar (Class XII G) and Shivangi (Class XII G) stood first second and third respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Additional Director/Principal of the school Dr. (Mrs.) D. Joseph conveyed her best wishes on the occasion and advised the children to continue the pursuit of such constructive and creative activities.
Ms. Ruchi Chabra, Headmistress, DPS Jammu lauded the efforts of the teachers and students and congratulated the winners. Ms. Meenu Gupta, (Headmistress upto middle wing) and senior coordinators Mr Umesh Sharma & Mr Ravi Kotroo were also present on the occasion and appreciated the performance of the senior students.
M.K. Ajatshatru Singh ji, Hon’ble President RCT (J&K), Kunwrani Ritu Singh ji, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chairperson & Sh. S. S. Sodhi ji, Hon’ble Director, DPS Jammu also conveyed their heartfelt wishes to young and budding artists on this occasion.
The program was coordinated by Ms. Manika Verma, (Ganga House In charge) who also presented the Vote of Thanks at the end.
