DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL JAMMU PRIMARY WING CELEBRATES DIWALI

The DPS Jammu campus came alive with the celebration of Deepawali on 20 th October, 2022 with colourful activities and Special Assembly put up by the students of Pre-Primary and Primary wings.‘The festival of lights,’ came alive at Delhi Public School Jammu, with Diwali Craft Activities and Special Assembly presented by Pre-Primary and Primary Wing students. The true essence of the festival was delineated through children’s balanced participation in art, music, dance and drama to impress upon them the true message of Diwali which is about spreading of joy, light, brotherhood
and using climate friendly ways to celebrate the festival.
The children of Classes I & II presented a bilingual musical drama on Diwali which was scripted by
the Principal, Ms. Ruchi Chabra and Ms. Meena Sharma, Hindi teacher. The story was infused the
key life-skills essential for imbibing by the children and adults such as, communication, decision-
making, problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, empathy, self-awareness, coping with
emotions, etc. Trained by their teachers, the enthusiastic tiny-tots breathed life into the multiple
roles played by them and received huge applause for their apt display of passion, confidence and
enthusiasm on the stage.
The young singers of Classes Nursery, Prep, and I enthralled everyone with their rendition of the
group song - ‘Aayi Diwali’, written and composed by the Music Teacher–Mr. Jacob Mattoo. The
program ended with a beautiful ‘Arti’ of Goddess Lakshmi and a pledge taken by all for celebrating a
cracker-free and pollution-free Diwali.
The main attraction of the program was the warm wishes extended to everyone by the very cute
tiny-tots of Class Pre-Nursery, who drew the smiling attention of audience for their dazzling looks
and “We Wish You a Very happy Diwali” message adorned as individual letters skillfully curated on
the placards hanging around their necks with colorful ribbons.
The teachers of Pre-Pry and Primary Wings narrated the story of Ramayana to children in the
classes, and also explained the significance of the festival – how good always conquered the evil and
also why and how Diwali is celebrated across India. Besides sensitizing students to the ill-effects of
crackers, they also shared the guidelines on being safe while bursting them, and also brushing teeth
after eating sweets.
The whole school wore a festive look with bright colour Diwali Greeting Cards, Rangolis, Torans,
Flowers, and decorated diyas and candles prepared by students as craft activity, adding a perfect
setting to the Diwali festivities and proving that creativity and talent do not have any boundaries.
Principal-DPS Jammu, Ms. Ruchi Chabra addressed the gathering and emphasized upon the essence
of the Diwali festival – a celebration of life, sharing of the light of goodness and hapiness with each
other, and praying for prosperity and happiness of all. She also conveyed the message of a clean,
safe and a pollution-free Diwali. She also felicitated Alankrita Sharma of Class II for her outstanding
performance in District Level Chess Championship. Earlier, Alkankrita also talked about her recent
spate of achievements and her inspiration for playing chess from a very small age.
Headmistress, Ms. Meenu Gupta imparted the message of extending support and help to each other
and helping the craftsmen and potters by buying gifts made by them.
The vote of thanks was presented by the Coordinator of Pre-Primary Wing Ms. Preeti Abrol. The
program concluded with the National Anthem.
Hon’ble President-RCT, Sh. M.K Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Hon’ble PVC, Dr. Kuwarani Ritu Singh Ji
and Hon’ble Director, Sh. S.S Sodhi Ji extended their best wishes to students and staff on the
auspicious occasion of Diwali festival and prayed for light of happiness, good health and
hope for the staff, students, and the parents of the school.
