Woman and Girl Child Health Camp Inaugurated by Director Education in Collaboration with Dr Kunwrani Ritu Singh, Narayana Hospital and Pink & Blue Foundation at DPS Katra

Under the ageis of Dr Kuwarani Ritu Singh’s project Amanat, an impactful Woman and Girl Child Health
Camp was inaugurated today at DPS Katra, in collaboration with Narayana Hospital and Pink and Blue
Foundation, to promote women's and girls' health and hygiene in the rural areas of Jammu. The event was
graced by the presence of Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh along with the Chief Guest, Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma -
Director of School Education Jammu, , Guests of Honour, Sh. M.M. Madhavan -Facility Director of
Narayana Hospital, Katra, Sh. Rohit Dubey - District President BJP, Ms. Ritu Thakur- President Mahila Mukti
Morcha, Reasi, and Smt Mamta Sharma, Deputy Director Education Jammu.
The event commenced with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony and the chanting of shlokas,making the
atmosphere serene which was followed by the felicitation of guests with khadi certificates and potted
plants by Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh.
The health camp witnessed a gathering of around 850 women and girl children from various schools,
including HSS(G) Reasi, HSS Katra, HSS Panthal, GHS Katra, HS Nomain, and villages such as Baba Bansal,
Matyail Pump, Asia Chowk, Amba Kids, and Magaal. Apart from the distribution of free sanitary napkins, a
comprehensive health check-up camp, including Breast Cancer Screening and general gynaecology checkups,
were organized by medical experts from Narayana HospitalThe Director of Education, Sh. Ashok
Kumar Sharma, lauded the efforts of DPS schools for their outreach and extended his whole hearted
support to the event.
Narayana Hospital brought a state-of-the-art medical bus equipped with modern machinery for breast
cancer screening, further emphasizing the importance of women's health. Apart from the distribution of
free sanitary napkins, a comprehensive health check-up camp, including Breast Cancer Screening and
general gynaecology check-ups, were organized by medical experts from Narayana Hospital. Dr. Beena Jad,
Senior Consultant & Infection Control Specialist, SMVDSH from Narayana Hospital, delivered an awareness
talk on menstrual health and hygiene, debunking myths and providing accurate information.
During his address, Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma emphasized the importance of discussing menstrual health
openly, stating that it is a natural process of human and animal reproduction. He lauded the initiative of Dr.
Kunwrani Ritu Singh and efforts of DPS Schools, recognizing their efforts in spreading awareness in rural
households. He further mentioned that the education department would actively support this mission to
create a lasting impact on menstrual hygiene.
Dr. Beena Jad, Senior Consultant & Infection Control Specialist, SMVDSH from Narayana Hospital presented
an awareness talk on menstrual health and hygiene, highlighting the importance of accurate information
and dispelling myths surrounding this crucial topic. She said that periods are a God gifted phenomenon and
one should not hesitate to discuss about menstrual hygiene with family members and doctors. Also, the
mothers in the family should aware the girl children from class fifth onwards about it. Moreover they
shouldn't take any sort of stress or taboo. She also guided for the proper disposal of the used napkins to
preserve the environment.
Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh, shed light on the significance of menstrual hygiene and health, coinciding with the
observance of Menstrual Hygiene Day. She expressed her gratitude to all participants and supporters,
highlighting the alignment of the Menstrual Health campaign with the Hon’ble PM’s vision of a healthy
India. She emphasized the significance of menstrual hygiene as a human right and the importance of
spreading accurate information and awareness to empower women in making informed decisions about
their health.
The campaign was launched by Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma and Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh, along with Sh. M.M.
Madhavan by distributing sanitary napkins to girl students and representatives from different government
educational institutions. Other members present on the launch were Ms. Mamta Sharma, Sh. Sh. Rohit
Dubey, Ms. Ritu Thakur, Dr. Beena Jad, Ms. Ruchi Chabra, Mr. Raj Kumar Verma, Ms. Simmi Sharma, Ms
Manikarnika Sharma, Mr. Karandeep Singh and Mr. R.C.Gupta.
Under the leadership of Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh and her initiative, Amanat, a medical outreach program
for the underprivileged, free health check-up camps have been conducted for women and girl child health
in rural areas. The success of this campaign has led to partnerships with hospitals, including the recent tieup
with KD's Super Speciality Hospital to offer lifelong health check-up cards to the inmates of Balgran and
Muskan Home.
The event witnessed generous support from Dr. Tina Sharma, Founder President of the Pink and Blue
Foundation and National Advisor to the MSME Minister, Government of India, who donated one lakh
sanitary napkins for distribution. Additionally, DPS schools also contributed 50,000 sanitary napkins,
further strengthening the cause.
DPS Jammu, DPS Nagbani, and DPS Katra have joined hands to distribute cartons of sanitary napkins to
underprivileged sections in the vicinity of their schools, ensuring that the benefits reach those in need.
The efforts undertaken during the camp, such as the distribution of sanitary napkins and the provision of
free health check-ups, have not only raised awareness about menstrual health and hygiene but also
emphasized the need for open discussions and accurate information on this crucial topic. Through these
initiatives, women and girls in rural areas are being empowered to make informed decisions about their
health and well-being.
The event concluded with the national anthem and refreshments for the children and guests.
