Independence Day Special Assembly Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour at DPS Jammu

To pay a befitting tribute to the spirit of freedom that our nation embodies, Delhi Public School Jammu organized a special assembly to celebrate 77th Independence Day, displaying India's rich cultural heritage, bravery, and diversity with great patriotic fervour and zeal.

The distinguished Chief Guest for this memorable occasion was Colonel Balraj Sharma, a decorated recipient of the prestigious Shaurya Chakra, awarded for his remarkable bravery and self-sacrifice by the President of India in 1996. This honour makes him an epitome of valour and dedication. The Guest of Honour, Lt. Colonel Sanjeev Koushal, Commanding Officer of the Jammu Unit, further added grace and prestige to the assembly.

The inspiring words of both Colonel Balraj Sharma and Lt. Colonel Sanjeev Koushal resonated deeply with the audience. They emphasized the significant role of the youth in shaping India's future and encouraged the students to consider diverse careers, including serving the country through the armed forces. They applauded the school for nurturing responsible citizens who are not only academically accomplished but also deeply rooted in their love for the country. Later they also gave away prizes to the achievers of the school excelling in sports, culture, arts and various other categories.

Earlier,on behalf of the esteemed Pro- Vice Chairperson DPS Jammu -Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh, both the distinguished guests were warmly welcomed with a Khadi National Flag, Khadi certificates, potted plant and paintings made by children of the school.

Hon’ble President, RCT, Sh. M.K. Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Hon’ble PVC Dr. Kunwrani Ritu Singh Ji, and Hon’ble Director Sh. S.S Sodhi Ji conveyed their warm wishes to the students and staff of DPS Jammu, highlighting the importance of unity and integrity for the nation's progress.

The celebration commenced with a mesmerizing and heart-touching patriotic song performed by the school choir, dressed in vibrant ethnic attires representing various states of our nation. The performance, accompanied by the waving of the national flag, filled the air with the essence of liberty and positivity, uniting the audience in a chorus of national pride. This was followed by scintillating patriotic group dance performances by the students of pre-primary, primary, and middle wings which seemed like a firework of rapid-moving steps that culminated with a solo dhol performance by Adhar Sawhney of Class V.
The assembly also featured an exceptional solo Raag Malkauns performance by Suhani Sharma from class XII, accompanied by Gunnat Singh (tabla), Arushi Aryan (harmonium), and Pranvi (tanpura), adding a soulful touch to the event and transporting the audience to a realm of reflection and contemplation, evoking the essence of unity and diversity that define our nation.

A highly impactful PowerPoint presentation on Kargil War Heroes, created and presented by Sheen Wanchoo (Class XII) and Prasan (Class XI), paid heartfelt tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of our armed forces. The presentation aimed to instill a sense of respect and understanding among the younger generation for the remarkable dedication of our soldiers in safeguarding the nation.

The heartfelt vote of thanks extended by Principal, DPS Jammu, Ms. Ruchi Chabra, expressed gratitude to all participants and dignitaries, urging students to cherish the gift of freedom and strive towards making India a progressive and prosperous nation.

The assembly concluded on a poignant note with the National Anthem, followed by the symbolic release of tricolored balloons, signifying the soaring spirit of a free and united nation. The event, organized by the enthusiastic members of Yamuna House, was elegantly compered by Manya Sharma and Pratham Thappa from Class XI.

This momentous occasion witnessed the presence of Headmistress Ms. Meenu Gupta, Headmaster Mr. Ravi Kotroo, Deputy Headmaster Mr. Umesh Sharma, Deputy Headmistress Ms. Rimpi Sharma, and the dedicated coordinators of the Middle Wing Ms Mrignaini Pathania, Ms Anuradha Malhotra, along with Mr R.C. Gupta, Sr Accounts Officer, Mr. Karandeep Singh, Sr Manager Operations, Mr M.L. Mehra, Transport Administrator.
