TWO-DAY MUN CONFERENCE HOSTED BY DPS JAMMU

To foster a rich educational environment, Delhi Public School Jammu proudly organized a dynamic Model United Nations (MUN) conference, bringing together students from classes IX to XII to engage in insightful discussions on international affairs and diplomacy on 19 & 20 October, 2023. The theme of the conference was "Evince the Unspoken". The two-day conference marked a significant milestone, highlighting the dedication, intellect, and potential of the students. It fostered constructive dialogues on global issues, instilled the values of diplomacy and informed debate, and nurtured the growth of our future leaders.

Over two days, more than 80 students displayed their enthusiasm for international relations, diplomacy, and critical thinking, addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, human rights, and peacekeeping. The debates were exceptionally well-articulated and well-researched and showcased the remarkable depth of knowledge possessed by these young leaders.

The committees and their respective agendas were as follows:
1. UNDP: Recent G20 conference and India's presidency.
2. UNHRC: International legalisation of LGBT rights and marital laws for Queer individuals.
3. AIPPM: Reasons behind India's struggle to maintain double-digit GDP growth.
4. International Press Committee: Comprehensive coverage of all committees and events.

The event's organizing committee, led by Sheen Wanchoo, Head Girl and Director General MUN, worked tirelessly to ensure the conference's success. Their dedication and meticulous planning provided a seamless and exceptional educational experience for all attendees which was appreciated by all. Kriday Misri, Rapporteur UNDP along with Aryan Verma, Member-International Press Committee presented a video snapshot of the 2-day event, a visual recall that was much cherished by all the members.

The conference recognized students who demonstrated exceptional skills and knowledge. In the AIPPM category, Jagrit Rajpal earned recognition as the Outstanding Delegate, while Shivam Daffara received an Honourable Mention. Charvi Gupta was also verbally acknowledged for her remarkable contributions. In the UNHRC category, Darsh Kaul was distinguished as the Best Delegate, Prasann Sharma as the Outstanding Delegate, and Aarush Gandotra received Honourable Mention. Verbal mentions were awarded to students representing various countries, including Spain (Ayn Bhola), Norway (Katyaini Pandotra), and the UK (Mayra Nargotra).

Honourable Pro-Vice Chairperson, Dr. Kuwarani Ritu Singh Ji, recognized and commended the dedication of the students in their pursuit of understanding complex global issues and their commitment to finding diplomatic solutions. Honourable President-RCT, Sh. M.K Ajatshatru Singh Ji, and Honourable Director, Sh. S.S. Sodhi Ji congratulated the students for their brilliant performance in the event. They extended their best wishes to all students and teachers for their future endeavours.

Earlier, the conference was inaugurated by Ms. Ruchi Chabra, Principal of DPS Jammu, who emphasized the significant role that MUN plays in enhancing students' communication, research, and negotiation skills among other qualities, such as empathy and compassion to shed light on hidden perspectives, unspoken voices, and unheard stories in the complex world. The auspicious lamp lighting was followed by a mesmerizing group song and classical dance performance by students. Also present on the occasion were Headmaster, Mr Ravi Kumar Kotroo, who also addressed the students, Deputy Headmaster Mr Umesh Kumar Sharma, MUN In charge Ms Arti Sharma, Ms SheetalAbrol, Mr Rayees Ahmad Khandey, Mr Puneet Sharma, and Mr Nikhil Sardhalia.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Harihar Sharma, Head of the Organizing Committee, followed by the National Anthem, and group photograph celebrating the grand success of the MUN conference at Delhi Public School Jammu.
