DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL JAMMU HOSTS THE PRESTIGIOUS CBSE REGIONAL SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2024-25: A CELEBRATION OF INNOVATION AND INQUIRY

Delhi Public School Jammu hosted a two-day CBSE North Zone Regional Science Exhibition on November 8th and 9th, 2024, providing a platform for young innovators of CBSE Schools of North Zone to foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity. This event aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, as students demonstrated their understanding of scientific concepts and presented groundbreaking ideas.
The exhibition saw participation from 26 prestigious schools from Punjab and Jammu with total 39 teams comprising 78 students representing their institutions. Divided into two categories—Grades VI to VIII and Grades IX to XII—the participants showcased their projects across seven themes: Food, Health, and Hygiene, Transport and Communication, Natural Farming, Disaster Management, Mathematical Modelling and Computational Thinking, Waste Management and Resource Management.
The participating schools included notable institutions such as Partap World School (Pathankot), Army Public School (Miran Sahib), Presentation Convent High School (Jammu), J.K. Public School, (Jammu), Bhartiya Vidya Mandir High School (Kathua), Sandeepni Gurukul (Pathankot), St. Kabir Public School (Gurdaspur), Jiya Lal Mittal D.A.V. Public School (Gurdaspur), Army Public School (Madhopur), Army Public School (Miran Sahib), Army Public School (BD Bari), Jammu Sanskriti School, (Jammu), International Delhi Public School (Jammu), Army Public School (Udhampur), Army Public School (Kandrori), Sai International School (Hiranagar), International Daily Rising School (Jammu), Cambridge International School (Kathua), Air Force School, (Jammu) Army Public School (Ratnuchak), Army Public School (Jammu Cantt), Army Public School (Kaluchak), and Army Public School (Domana). Students and staff from various Jammu schools also visited the exhibition, engaging with participants and admiring the innovative projects.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Pankaj Goswami, Professor and Head of Animal Health and Microbiology at SKUAST Jammu, with Guests of Honour Dr. Sanku Borkataki, Professor in Veterinary Parasitology, SKUAST Jammu, and Dr. Manjeet Singh, CEO of Triumph Group, New Delhi. The distinguished judging panel featured experts such as Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Head, Division of Agricultural Economics at SKUAST Jammu, Prof. S.K. Pandita, Professor of Geology at the University of Jammu, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Senior Medical Officer, Central University of Jammu, Dr. Manpreet Kour, Associate Professor, AICRP Division of Agronomy at SKUAST Jammu, Dr Anjali Pathania, Senior Assistant Professor, School of Business Studies, Central University of Jammu, and Dr. Pankaj Mansotra, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, GGM Science College.
The exhibition commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a patriotic group song by the school choir. In her welcome address, DPS Jammu Principal Ms. Ruchi Chabra emphasized the importance of nurturing curiosity and innovation in young minds, appreciating CBSE’s initiatives to cultivate a scientific spirit among students. In his key note address, Chief Guest Dr. Pankaj Goswami encouraged students to pursue innovation and creativity, while the Guests of Honour- Dr Sanku Borakatki and Dr Manjeet Singh highlighted the role and significance of building scientific temper among students. They also congratulated all participants, teachers, parents, Management, Principal for their dedication.
Projects were evaluated based on criteria such as creativity, originality, scientific principles, technical skills, educational value, scalability, utility, cost-efficiency, portability, and presentation. Noteworthy projects included: "Digi Tutor" for interactive learning," Automatic Waste Segregator" for efficient waste management, "Eco-Smart Farming” for sustainable agriculture practices," Highway Energy Harvesting" to generate electricity from traffic, "Sensory Car" enhancing transport safety, etc.
At the concluding ceremony on day 2, the winners were announced, with 11 projects selected for the National Round. These teams were from the following schools: Army Public School B.D Bari, Army Public School Kaluchak, Army Public School Mamun Cantt. Pathankot, Air Force School Jammu, Presentation Convent Sr. Sec. School Jammu, Army Public School Ratnuchak, Jammu, Sandeepni Gurukul Pathankot, St. Kabir Public School Gurdaspur, Army Public School, Gurdaspur.
The judges commended the participants' creativity and thanked the DPS Jammu for providing an exceptional platform to connect with bright young minds.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Headmaster, Mr. Ravi Kumar Kotroo who expressed gratitude to the guests, judges, and participants for their contributions to the event’s success. He acknowledged Vice Principal Ms. Meenu Gupta, Venue Nodal Officer Ms. Insha Ahmad, Program Coordinator Ms. Manika Verma, and the entire organizing team for their dedication. Heartfelt thanks were also expressed by the Principal and Headmaster for M.K. Sh. Ajatshatru Singh Ji, President, RCT, Kunwrani Dr. Ritu Singh JI, PVC, DPS Jammu, Sh. S.S. Sodhi JI, Director, DPS Jammu, for their support and guidance for the successful conduct of the event.
The event was expertly compered by Prasan Sharma (XII), Samiksha Rai (XII), Aayat Fatima (XI), and Vaidik Taggar (XI) and concluded with token presentation to the judges and National Anthem.
