Police Station City, Jammu Conducts Awareness Program on New Criminal Laws at DPS Jammu

In a continued effort to educate the youth and the general public about the recently amended criminal laws, Police Station City, Jammu organized an Awareness Program on New Criminal Laws at Delhi Public School Jammu here today.The initiative aimed to familiarize attendees with the updated legal framework, empowering them to navigate the evolving legal landscape effectively.Students and faculty members actively participated in the interactive session, engaging in discussions and seeking clarifications on various legal provisions.
The session was led by PSI AaqibLateif, In-charge Police Post Residency Road, and PSI Bhawani Singh, Investigating Officer, P/S City, Jammu, who provided detailed insights into the key aspects of the new criminal laws. They emphasized the importance of understanding and adhering to these laws to maintain societal order and ensure justice.
The officers gave an insightful overview of the three newly enacted laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, BharatiyaNagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and BharatiyaSakshyaAdhiniyam (BSA) 2023—which have replaced the British-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act.
The officers spoke in detail about:
• Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 – Provisions related to mob lynching, terrorism, and organized crime, with stringent punishments for serious offenses.
• BharatiyaNagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 – Focus on speedy trials, digital case documentation, and video recording of crime scenes.
• BharatiyaSakshyaAdhiniyam (BSA) 2023 – Introduction of modern evidence collection methods, including electronic and forensic evidence admissibility.
The officers emphasized how these reforms aim to modernize India’s legal system, ensure transparency, efficiency, and faster justice delivery, and protect the rights of both victims and accused individuals.
The esteemed Management, DPS Jammu, including Hon’ble President Shri M.K. Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Distinguished Pro Vice Chairperson KunwraniDr.Ritu Singh Ji, Director Shri S.S. Sodhi Ji, and Principal Ms. Ruchi Chabra, lauded the initiative taken by the Police Department. They reaffirmed the school’s unwavering commitment to fostering legal awareness and responsible citizenship among students, ensuring they grow into informed and conscientious members of society.
