DPS Jammu Organizes Awareness Programme on PM–Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

School receives Appreciation Certificate from JPDCL for Promoting Awareness on Solar Energy Among Students
Delhi Public School Jammu organized a Prize Distribution Ceremony for students of Classes VI to VIII on 31 Aug to felicitate the winners of Poster Making and Debate Competitions that were held earlier to promote awareness about the PM–Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The event also featured presentations and motivational addresses by key officials from the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and REC Ltd., aimed at encouraging young minds to adopt and advocate the use of solar energy. The programme was held as part of the school’s commitment to support India’s national mission on renewable energy and sustainability.
Gracing the occasion were senior officers from JPDCL including Er. Sanjeev Rohmetra (Executive Engineer), Er. Ashwini Kumar (Assistant Executive Engineer), Er. Amit Hanjura (Assistant Executive Engineer), and Sh. Shavindu Mehta, representative from REC Ltd. The guests were warmly welcomed with potted plants as a mark of respect and eco-conscious tradition.
The gathering was enriched with inspiring talks by the dignitaries. Er. Sanjeev Rohmetra gave a detailed presentation on the PM–Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, explaining its key features, technical advantages, and the long-term financial benefits of adopting rooftop solar systems. He highlighted how the scheme plays a crucial role in helping Indian households become self-reliant in power consumption and contribute to the nation’s green energy goals. Er. Amit Hanjura addressed the students and faculty, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in the solar energy movement and how educational institutions can serve as torchbearers for sustainable change.
Students of DPS Jammu added creative vibrancy to the event with performances and presentations. Priyal recited a moving self-composed Hindi poem titled “Ek Kiran Ki Aas” (A Ray of Hope), while Abhilasha Ralli and Tanish Pathania delivered insightful speeches on the importance of clean energy and individual responsibility.
The competitions had been previously held with enthusiastic participation from Classes VI, VII, and VIII. The Poster Making Competition for Class VI was based on themes such as “My House, My Solar Power,” “No More Power Cuts – Thanks to Rooftop Solar!” and “Promoting Rooftop Solar Energy – A Step Towards a Brighter, Greener Future.” Merit certificates were awarded to Avish Raina, Zaina Singh, Aahana Raina, Myraa Thakur, Aahana Gupta, Aayan Hassan Khan, Alena, Matsya Sharma, Shazia Anjum, Yamina Rashid, and Syed Zynah.
The Debate Competition for Classes VII and VIII focused on critical topics like “Rooftop Solar Plants: The Future of Sustainable Power in India,” “Investment in Solar Energy Today is a Gift for Tomorrow,” and “Rooftop Solar Power is a More Sustainable Option than Large-Scale Power Plants.” Merit certificate recipients from Class VII included Avaya Sharma, Abhilasha Ralli, Tanish Pathania, Narayani Sharma, Shayna Jamwal, Bhavini Singh, Vivaan Gupta, Harsimar Kour, Myra Gupta, and Chirag Gupta. From Class VIII, the students who received certificates were Vinaya Gupta, Paras Gupta, Samrudh Bakshi, Safal Pranjal, Snehal Atri, Aaratrika Gupta, Pranika, Japneev Kour, Rithvik Singh, and Seerat Ayesha Chauhan.
The programme was confidently compered by students Diya Dogra and Sayed Hansa, who ensured the smooth flow of the ceremony with poise and clarity. Principal Ms. Ruchi Chabra, in her address, appreciated the efforts of the students and staff and emphasized how such events not only spread awareness but also instil values of environmental responsibility among children. Vice Principal Ms. Meenu Gupta reiterated the school’s continued commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable tomorrow through education and action.
In recognition of the school’s outstanding contribution to promoting solar awareness through these competitions, DPS Jammu was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The certificate acknowledged the school’s tireless efforts in conducting debates and painting competitions that support the Government’s initiative to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.
The distinguished management of the school- Hon’ble President-RCT, Sh. M.K. Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Hon’ble PVC Kunwrani Dr. Ritu Singh Ji, and Hon’ble Director Sh. S.S. Sodhi Ji extended their heartfelt congratulations and blessings to all teachers and students for making the event a great success.
The ceremony concluded on a patriotic note with the rendition of the National Anthem, leaving everyone inspired to contribute meaningfully toward India’s clean energy future.
