DPS Jammu Celebrates Sports Day 2015-16

Delhi Public School, Jammu celebrated its Annual Sports Meet 2015-16 on the school grounds on 24th of February 2016. Sh. Dilbagh Singh IPS, Addl. Director General of Police was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Principal DPS Katra, Mr. Rajkumar Verma also graced the occasion. Headmistress DPS, Jammu, Ms. Meenu Gupta, Members of administration and coordinators were also present.
Ms. Ruchi Chabra Principal, DPS Jammu welcomed the Hon’ble Chief Guest, dignitaries and others with her precious words emphasizing that this experience of sports day may turn a new leaf in the lives of the students because education builds character but sports reveal it.
The programme began with DPS song and welcome dance. A scintillating start to the day’s programme began with the March Past which was the crowning glory of all sporting events. The ceremonial parade consisting of the five houses- Chenab, Ganga, Jhelum, Tawi and Yamuna marched elegantly to the tune of the school band. Each of the house marched along with the House captain and Vice House captain bearing their house flags proudly.
The Sport Torch was lit by the Hon’ble Chief Guest marking the commencement of the sporting events of the day. The Chief Guest also declared the sports meet open. He also addressed the gathering with his inspiring words explaining that sports is a unifying factor where sports people from different states, cities and countries meet and work together to bring name and fame for their nation. In sports one learns not only strength and skills but also grace, balance and respect for each other. Sh. Dilbagh Singh also spoke very high about the school.

Demonstrations of various sports like Yoga, Lazium, Taekwando, Speed ball, Fencing, Aerobics, were presented by the students followed by different races like Sack race for Juniors, Relay race for Seniors and Ball in the basket race for Pre-Nursery students. Students actively participated and show cased their multi-faceted talents. The winners were awarded with medals and certificates for the year 2015-16. Sanand Sharma and Siya Singh, were awarded Best Sports Achievers of the Year overall while Ishita Singh and Musaif Ajaz were declared as the Best Sports Persons in Skating and Cricket respectively. Soham Kamotra and Iknoor were adjudged as the Best Sports Persons in Junior Category. The power packed day concluded with the award ceremony where 60 students were awarded with trophies by the dignitaries for their outstanding performances in different sports fields such as Badmintion, Taekwando, Chess, Swimming, Judo karate, Speed ball, Wu-shu, Cricket, Archery, Rifle shooting, Table tennis, Yoga, Fencing, .

Delhi Public School has always been excelling in the field of sports. This year also, the school students participated in various co-curricular activities and brought laurels to the school. This year the school participated in inter School, State level, Inter District, Inter DPS, CBSE, CBSE North Zone , CBSE Nationals games and the students won many prizes, trophies, cash prizes and medals. M.K Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Hon’ble President RCT, Kunwrani Ritu Singh Ji,
Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chairperson and Sh. S. S. Sodhi Ji, Hon’ble Director DPS Jammu also conveyed their blessings and good wishes to the students for their bright future.
Finally Principal, DPS Jammu Ms. Ruchi Chabra honoured the Chief Guest with the memento of love and respect. The programme concluded with National Anthem.
